Mahamumbai Railway Line

Introducing the Nerul-Uran line, a vital railway connection serving Navi Mumbai and MahaMumbai(3rd Mumbai), India. This line connects CBD Belapur and Nerul to Uran, attaching to the Harbour line. Opened on November 11, 2018, it swiftly began daily operations the next day.

This railway line plays a crucial role in boosting the growth of MahaMumbai(3rd Mumbai), Navi Mumbai, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, and newly developed areas of MahaMumbai. It caters to the needs of passengers traveling to Mahamumbai, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, industries around the port, ONGC, defense establishments, and various residential, industrial, and warehousing complexes in Uran and Mahamumbai.

Technical Specifications:

– The corridor stretches 27 km and features 10 stations, including major bridges and road connections.
– Platforms are designed for two Broad gauge tracks, accommodating 12-car electric multiple unit rakes.
– The track structure utilizes sturdy materials like 60 kg/m I-class rails and prestressed concrete sleepers.
– Stone ballast and provisions for railway line extension to CBD Belapur ensure safe and efficient travel.

The project is divided into two phases:

– Phase I covers Nerul to Kharkopar, with stations like Seawoods, Sagar Sangam, and Targhar.
– Phase II extends from Kharkopar to Uran, with stations including Gavhan, Ranjanpada, and Dronagiri.

Status:

– Phase I stations Bamandongari and Kharkopar are operational, while Targhar awaits completion.
– In Phase II, stations between Kharkopar and Uran are complete, except for Gavhan, which was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on January 12, 2024.

History:

– The project was initiated by the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) in 1970 to decongest Mumbai.
– After delays, work resumed in 2011 following a tripartite agreement between Railways, CIDCO, and the Maharashtra government.
– The project’s cost rose from ₹495 crore to ₹1,782 crore, shared between CIDCO and Indian Railways.

Stations:

The Nerul-Uran line spans 12 stations, providing connectivity to various parts of Navi Mumbai and Mahamumbai, including key metro lines and transportation hubs.
